Animal architecture, which includes everything from underground burrows to built nests to enormous above-ground constructions, is a term used to describe how many animals create and alter their physical surroundings. There are examples of animal building all over the planet, including underwater, on land, in the air, and hanging off of cliffs and trees. Animals have been building shelters and other manmade structures for hundreds of millions of years, according to fossil evidence.
